Climbing the Ladder to the Light

Using the Native American kiva as a metaphor, Steven Charleston guides us from a place of darkness into the light to which the Spirit calls us as individuals and as a society.  Our ascent becomes increasingly clearer as we climb the rungs of a spiritual ladder toward the light of hope. In Ladder to the Light, Charleston brings together words he has heard from the Spirit that remind us we are stronger than darkness.

Steven Charleston is a Native American by birth, an elder in the Choctaw Nation, as well as an ordained Episcopal bishop. He is the former bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Alaska , president  and dean of Episcopal Divinity School, and professor at Luther Seminary.

We will read Charleston’s book Ladder to the Light individually in a six-week study beginning January 16 and ending February 20. During that time, we’ll meet for an hour of guided conversation in large and small groups by Zoom on Thursday afternoons at 4 pm (Central time). The Zoom link will be sent to participants weekly.

If you want to join this study and receive the Zoom link, please send an email to Marjorie George at marjoriegeorge62@gmail.com.

There is no charge for the study, but participants will need to buy their own books. They are available at St.Mark’s Bookstore online at https://bookshop.org/shop/stmarksbookstoresa. Search for Ladder to the Light in the search bar and be sure to get the one by Steven Charleston.
